En Passant
When War destroyed the world, it left very little left. Living creatures were sparse. The surviving humans were either very witty, strong, or resourceful. With so little left, the humans had to learn to live without the luxuries they were so use to. And they were inclined to sticking close together for support and strength. This blemish on the world has lead to where we are today.
Centuries later, the world started forming empires, just as they had done in their past. Based only on hand-me down from parent to child tales of a time long, long past. Unlike the time-line their ways of life, architect, and many other things are made of, they also seem to hold some form of modern technology. Much like the fabled land of Atlantis.
In this world, there exist three current super-powers. Penuria -The Kingdom of White, Medius - The Kingdom of Grey, and Pariter - The Kingdom of Black. Each country has it’s own strengths and weaknesses, that’s what makes them the world powers. Unfortunately, like much world powers go. There is tension, between these three bordering Kingdoms. The only thing keeping a full out war is the royals knowledge that war destroyed the world before.
This is also why power is very thoroughly watched. The King will always be of blood, but the Queen will always be chosen very carefully, for it is on her shoulders to protect not only her Kingdom, but her King, even at the cost of her life. The Bishops, the Knights, the Rooks, and even the Pawns, are all carefully selected. As the Kingdom does not want rowdy warriors who will disobey orders.
They do not want people of power who would dare to cause chaos and possibly a world war. They want to be better than their predecessors, their ancestors, those from a time long ago when war ruled the world. But with how humans conflict, can the royals really control everything and cease the war from happening? Especially when there is always the possibility another Kingdom may want the war? Especially when the royals themselves may be the cause of conflict?
Among the royals, marriage isn’t due to love, it’s due to necessity. A Queen, a King, they’re still human, ‘flaws’ are only to be expected -but they’re not. A Queen, a King? They should be beyond human flaws. Their people expect perfection from them, because they are the pillar which supports their people. Falling in love… With some one lower than yourself, or worse, some one from another Kingdom, it’s a nightmare waiting to happen. The people would not be able to accept it. With the royals so strained to hide any unwanted private life of theirs, will they really have the strength to hold their heads high?
