Personality: Reine can be a difficult person to understand. At first glance, it seems like all she cares about is herself and beauty; which isn’t true at all. She does indeed adore beautiful things, and beautify in particular is important to her. She falls in love with anything of beauty; whether it’s human or not.
Whenever she speaks, it appears as if Reine is flirting. Only sometimes is it intentional, but for the most part, it isn’t. There’s a difference between the ways Reine feels and the way she acts. Not too many people know this – in fact, only close friends and family do. It should be obvious enough, but many don’t seem to understand. It’s a mask that seems to hurt her more than help.
She likes to use endearments of the dead language of French. Her mother used to constantly use them on her, and taught her each of the meanings. She adores the way they sound, and almost always use them when she converses with people. Reine likes to think that she sounds more charming and alluring when she uses them with a confident wink and smile.
Reine is the type of person who can be quite motherly. She’s affectionate to everyone and everything, and always makes sure they’re taking care of themselves. She enjoys physical contact such as hugs and kisses, but there’s a point where it may get to be too much. She’s actually a panromantic asexual. She finds herself attracted to anyone, regardless of her gender. To her, it doesn’t matter at all. Reine isn’t one for sex. Despite this, she seems to come off as one who constantly lusts after nearly everyone; but the truth is, she’s merely affectionate. She believes that everyone deserves to be happy and should be able to experience a good, romantic life. She finds her own happiness in seeing others’ fortune – whether it’s because of her clothes, love or anything else.
Although Reine loves seeing couples together and their happiness, she also finds her bitterness in seeing them. It reminds her of her own lonely, inactive love life and she’s envious. Her own life in general is rather good; she does what she loves, she’s doing well in Pariter and she has good relations with her customers and neighbors. However, there’s still a small nagging feeling in the very pit of her heart. She’s a romanticist and longs for someone who understands her, and not see only her outer shell. They need to be able to completely comprehend her feelings about sexual relationships and respect her decisions. They can’t try to coerce her into doing something she doesn’t want – Reine won’t stand for that.
Overall, Reine is a charismatic, charming and independent woman on the outside. Inwardly, she has plenty of problems and issues of her own. She waits somewhat patiently and impatiently for the day when she meets just the right person who she’ll spend the rest of life with. She finds small pleasures in life such as designing and tailoring clothes for the people of Pariter, beautiful things and helping along people’s romantic lives when possible.
History: Reine was born in a regular, common household some ways from Caligo, the capital of Pariter. She was raised alone by her mother, known as Chevalier Amadour. When she was young and learning to talk, she had asked about her father’s whereabouts, only to be answered with a nostalgic smile and a small headshake. This confused her for the longest time, but all Reine knew was that her father was nowhere to found.
Reine and Chevalier lived a happy life together for several long years. Occasionally, while Chevalier taught Reine stitch patterns and they practiced using embroidery, Chevalier would share stories passed down by their ancestors. Reine was always fascinated yet horrified of the stories of the past about a great war which destroyed the world and killed a countless number of people. There were tales of brave soldiers who fought to protect their countries (which Reine would interrupt and ask what those were, and Chevalier would say they were like Kingdoms, but without a Royal Court. And Reine would gape, unbelieving that there was ever a time without Kingdoms and without a King, a Queen, Bishops and the rest of the pieces.), their families, loved ones and for what they believed in. They were heroes.
Often enough, Reine would ask Chevalier about all these “funny” names that she would refer to the girl as. Chevalier would smile warmly, and explain that they were endearments in French. Reine had never heard of “French” before, and naturally, questioned what it was. And so, Chevalier would explain it was one of the languages spoken in the countries from the stories. She taught Reine all about the endearments and a few other basic words such as “Hello”, “Thank you”, “Goodbye” and “Farewell” among others. She told her about the origins and the meanings of their names; Chevalier meaning “Knight” and Reine meaning “Queen”. (Reine’s eyes lit up in excitement, thrilled to hear their names were like titles of members in the Royal Court. It pleased her immensely.) Reine enjoyed these times, when they would sit together on the couch, stitching and chatting for hours on end.
But during the year when Reine was fifteen in late autumn, Reine and Chevalier went their separate ways due to a fire. It was an unfortunate accident caused by a fire that was left untended to. Reine had been sent to the local store by Chevalier to fetch some fresh foods for the week and when she returned, Reine found her small, comfy house consumed by angry red flames. A crowd had by now surrounded it and before Reine could run inside to rescue her mother, she was held back by a few of her neighbors. She screamed and shouted and cried and sobbed, but it was to no avail.
When her home had been reduced to ashes, Reine learned that apparently her mother had fallen asleep as she took a nap. The fire had grown and spread, and it had been too late. She wept some more when she finally realized that she was now an orphan. She had no information of her father whatsoever, and was left to her own devices. The only thing she had left was the crown clip her mother had always worn. Reine had pleaded to let Chevalier let her borrow it for just that day, and Chevalier had laughed, carefully unpinned it and handed it to her with a patting of her head.
A neighbor offered to take her in, at least until she was old enough to fend for herself. Reine figured she already was, but the neighbor persisted. She said she would take her on as if she were an apprentice, and teach everything she knew about tailoring. Reine had grudgingly accepted, hesitant. Just looking at a sewing needle and thread brought back bad memories, but she needed to move on from the past to get anywhere. She firmly believed that.
And so, Reine spent three years concentrating on learning how to design, stitch, tailor clothes of all sorts. It was after her eighteenth birthday when she left that neighbor, who she had grown awfully fond of, with a smile of eternal gratitude on her face. The neighbor had given her a good sum of money, despite Reine’s protests, to start off with her life. Reine would never forget her.
Reine decided to head to Caligo in search of finding a job of assisting a seamstress or tailor. Soon enough, she managed to find one. She spent two years working in that shop before saving enough to buy herself a decent sized, two story house. She spent some time fixing the place up and managed to successfully turn the first floor into a shop/studio for her to work. She purchased some materials to start off and spent a week making some original and unique garments. The second floor was shifted into a comfortable place where Reine could sleep and relax when her shop wasn’t opened.
It took some more time, but Reine eventually became well-known enough throughout Caligo to run her shop, La Chevalier, at a steady enough rate to live comfortably. For the past six years, Reine has been enjoying her life as a seamstress in Pariter. All of the people are enjoyable and pleasant enough. She now currently is waiting for a love life that will hopefully start soon enough.
Additional Information: Reine is perfectly content with her daily, busy life of sewing and stitching various outfits for customers. The only thing she finds missing is a romantic companion.
Roleplay Sample: The morning light filtered in through the open window, directly onto the room’s current occupant. It was a warm August day, but Reine wasn’t ready to wake quite yet. She buried herself under her covers with a groan. The blankets were warm and comfortable, unlike the cool air surrounding her bed. Her alarm clock hadn’t gone off yet, which meant she didn’t have to get up just yet --
Ring! Ring! Ring!
Reine hit the “OFF” button and rolled out of the bed with a yawn. She stretched and glanced out the window. The sky was already bright blue without a cloud in the sky. She smiled. It was going to be a perfect day out; Reine could tell.
After taking a warm shower and thoroughly washing her hair, Reine sat down in front of the mirror to brush it. She parted it and smiled as her Persian cat, Fleur, purred and rubbed against her leg. “Bonjour, ma cherie,” She said, and reached down to pet her. Fleur meowed contently, waving her fluffy table before disappearing out the door, most likely in search of food.
Reine looked back in the mirror now that the distraction was gone, and set to brushing her brown hair. It was nice and soft due to the conditioner she had used; just the way she liked it. She reached for her hair pin in the shape of the crown, and put it in place. She took another to moment to carefully check to make sure everything was just right and a second time before being completely satisfied.
She finished dressing and made herself an omelet breakfast. She quickly ate, and headed downstairs (after checking in the mirror one more time to be sure) to the shop. Outfits of all sizes and sorts were displayed on various mannequins and Reine felt a small burst of pride every time she passed one. She flipped the sign on the door from “CLOSED” to “OPEN” and unlocked the door with the key she kept with her at all times. She opened the door and stretched almost lethargically as she felt the warm, summer air on her skin.
It was definitely a perfect day.

((So this ended up being her owning the shop… But sort of in a modern day AU? I mean, she has an alarm clock and a cat, so… I don’t even know. It was two in the morning when I wrote this. ;; and it sucks and I'm going to be gone all day but I can fix it in the evening if needed.))
