Personality: Ciel always keeps a strict poker face when it comes to dealing with the other Kingdoms for business purposes. Concealing emotions and keeping a level-head is extremely important. While conducting important matters concerning the Kingdom’s well-being, she remains calm and keeps her expression neutral, conveying no emotion. On the side, she enjoys playing poker and is very skilled at not revealing anything.
While Ciel has an almost constant serious appearance, when spending time with her family and close friends, she is quite sociable. She has a sharp tongue and often makes witty and clever remarks. She’s said to speak like an “old man” because of her seriousness. Even though she’s royalty and what she says is law, Ciel can be rather stubborn and very persuasive when she wants to. She’s always victorious in arguments and debates.
Ciel is extremely knowledgeable, even though she's relatively young. She knows much of what’s going on between all of the Kingdoms, their relationships and the like. She has a very good memory, and there is very little she doesn’t know. But because she knows so much, Ciel has a more difficult time with originality. She personally prefers to follow an example of some sort than be left to her own devices. When she has a little time to relax, she won’t be complaining if she hears any gossip.
Ciel is the type who needs to regularly check on everything. She goes for strolls through the Kingdom, usually with a Pawn, to check on how her citizens are doing. She likes to talk with them and see how they're personally faring. Ciel doesn't like to sit down and let everything be done for her. She's not helpless. Ciel also prefers to personally see that the members of the Royal Court are doing as well as the citizens. She cares deeply for them all.
Ciel doesn’t show it, but is almost constantly worrying about all of the Kingdom’s affairs, the economy and their relations. She likes to know exactly what’s going on around her and won’t hesitated to conduct some research – including graphs, demographics and data tables - to satisfy her anxiety. She’s very organized and quite paranoid. The weather and floods are especially fretful. She often worries about what will happen if the Kingdoms of Penuria and Pariter’s barely civil relationship falls to shambles once again.

History: Ciel was born to the former King, who was also female. The Queen was female as well, so her biological mother slept with one of the Knights at that time to produce an heir. After she was born and when her cerulean eyes first opened, the King believed them to be as beautiful as the clear blue sky and named her ‘Ciel’ – perhaps because of her love for the dead language of French as well.
As a child, Ciel as always curious about every little thing she laid eyes on. She had a desire and a passion to learn everything she could. She was always asking questions, which the King and Queen were more than happy to answer. They lovingly raised her, both amused by the child’s curiosity. She spent a lot of time with the Bishops, learning much about the Kingdoms and their history. Ciel was an obedient child, and paid attention to every lesson. The King wanted her to learn French, and to understand the beauty and romance of the dead language. Ciel found it interesting and hard at first to understand. As time passed, she continued to practice and learned to speak it fluently by age eight.
When she grew to be an early teenager, Ciel began to go through a rebellious stage and always seemed to want to disagree with her parents’ decisions, no matter how reasonable they were. She didn’t understand why, and loathed the feeling. But no matter what her parents decreed, she wanted to argue against the point. Ciel would sneak out of the castle to walk around the Kingdom as she sulked; she liked to observe the citizens and, for some reason, it calmed her. It was during this time that Ciel managed to perfect her poker face while debating with the King and Queen, and to keep her emotions under control. It was quite a frustrating time for them all.
It was during the King’s passing that helped her fully mature and come to her senses when Ciel was seventeen. She overcame the stage of wanting to be free and to be bound without restrictions, and fell back into the reality of her duties and obligations as the new King. It was a quick transition that needed to happen, and Ciel knew it. But it deeply saddened her that her mother had to be sacrificed for her to snap out of her foolishness.
From that day on, Ciel vowed she would be a great King who cared deeply about the Kingdom of Medius and would always analyze the situation, seeing all the sides of the picture. She would be a fair and selfless ruler, looking out for only the best interests of the Kingdom of Medius and its citizens.

Additional Information: Ciel was greatly worried when her vision began to decline and she could no longer see as well as she used to. The former Queen ordered her a pair of glasses, and she was forced to wear them. At first Ciel thought wearing glasses was a nuisance, but now enjoys them. She thinks she looks more intelligent with them and whenever she needs to fiddle with something, she can fix her glasses.
She is young for a King, but very capable. She’s a good judge of character, and thoroughly reads the situation and mood. Ciel likes to know everything before making a final decision about anything.
Ciel believes in true love, and can be a romanticist. She doesn’t expect much for herself. If she can, she’ll help others as much as possible to be happy.

Roleplay Sample: Ciel watches as the cards were dealt around the circular table with careful eyes. One, two, one, two, one, two, fwip fwip fwip. She adjusts her glasses as her second card is placed down in front of her and she holds them up for examination. The Jack of Diamonds and the Seven of Spades.
In all honesty, it wasn’t a very good hand. But as always, she keeps her face expressionless with the tiniest smile as she moves a white chip forward, signaling she’s in. The soft sound of cards being laid face down to the immediate left of her meant a forfeit for this round. Ciel personally never folded unless she knew for absolutely certain she had no chance of winning.
More chips were moved forward and there’s another fold. There are five left, not including herself. She wonders if someone would raise. However, no one does and soon the first three cards are revealed; the Ace of Hearts, the Two of Clubs and the Ten of Clubs.
So far, she has no points and no chance of winning. She takes a quick glance at the others’ expressions and gauges them. One was smiling, clearly confident with his win. Another frowns, unhappy with the cards and stares at them as if she could make the cards change miraculously. Two have neutral expressions, and the last seems to be deep in thought.
Ciel places three red chips down. A reasonable bet, yet it was definitely putting some pressure on the other players. The first’s eyebrows lift in slight surprise, but he seems to quickly recover and moves the chips forward. She had expected him to raise, but he hadn’t. Interesting.
The woman diagonal on her left folds with a sigh. The next three move the required chips forward. Ciel pushes her sliding glasses up again, and waits for the next card patiently. It’s flipped and the Queen of Diamonds is shown. She still has nothing. But that wouldn’t stop her.
She puts down five blue chips, raising the bar. The man from before cockily throws in six. Ciel finally smiles. Now it was finally beginning to get interesting. The man after folds without a word and one of the remaining women follows his example. The last woman moves forward the chips.
Ciel slides forward three more blue tokens, a declaration she would most certainly not give up. She has four blue and an orange remaining. The cocky man had three blue chips left. If he wanted to stay in the game, he would be required to sacrifice two.
Stubbornly (and by now she’s not surprised), the man tosses in the chips. The woman only had two left, and folded, not willing to take the risk. Absentmindedly Ciel thinks of how boring that is.
The last card is flipped to show the Jack of Spades. Ciel has the faintest trace of a smile; someone would have to examine her features closely to notice. She examines the possibility of the man having an Ace or a Queen. A Queen is less likely due to the man becoming confident before it was revealed, and it’s very likely the man’s cards were concentrated around Aces, Twos and Tens as he hadn’t become even cockier when the last two cards were revealed. She considers him having a pair of Aces which was unlikely with seven other players. Perhaps a combination of an Ace and a Two or a Ten. Regardless, she would take the risk.
Ciel places her last of her blue chips down and looks at the man expectantly. She was coercing him into either folding now or risking the chance of being thrown out if he lost the last of his chips. Sure enough, the man looks nervous, but foolishly pushes the tokens forward. The pot is a colorful combination of white, red and blue.
Ciel and the man flip their cards over at the same time. She and everyone else eagerly read his cards, excited to know the outcome of the bet. He glances at hers anxiously. His King of Clubs and Ten of Diamonds lay exposed.
His eyes widen in horror, realizing he has lost and he grudgingly stands up with a defeated sigh. The others murmur sympathetically and say farewell. Ciel claims the tricolor arrangement of chips and adjusts her glasses once again with a victorious smirk.
