The King is the most important and beloved member of a kingdom. He (Or she) is always the first born child of the royal family and is the symbol of a kingdoms’ power, well-being and wealth. Without the King, there can be no kingdom; thus the Queen and and all her (or his) men will fight til their dying breaths to keep him safe. He is the representation of hope and future for his people, he inspires them the hold together and stand as one against all obstacles and enemies. He is what binds everyone together.. Without him, they are nothing.
The Queen is by far the most powerful individual in the Kingdom. She (Or he) acts as the real ruling authority behind the King; making most of the political decisions with advice taken from the Bishops. It is her duty to defend the kingdom and the King, at any and all cost, even if it means her own life. Queens can be replaced at any given time; the King can only be succeeded. Knowing how valuable he is to the wellbeing of her kingdom, regardless of personal feelings, the Queen will always put the King’s safety and needs before her own. She is what keeps everyone as safe as she can.. Without her, they are lost.
The Bishops are the King and Queen’s personal advisors. While they also handle most religious matters, their main purpose is the help the King and Queen see all sides to a situation and make the decision most beneficial to their kingdom. In order to keep the royals safest within kingdom walls, the Bishops are often their representatives when inter-kingdom meetings and relations are concerned. Only on the most serious of matters will the Queen herself, be the representative with the Bishops as her escorts. They are the guiding for the rulers.. Without them, they diverge.
The Knights are the leaders of the home-based military. Their main duties include defending the kingdom walls, its citizens and the Royal Castle. They are the most capable of fighters with a very strict code that, while honorable to uphold, restricts them from a great number of everyday things that others get to enjoy. They are bound by law, honor and tradition to fight to protect their rulers and obey their every command down to the letter. Going against them, even if its in everyone’s best interest in the end, can have dire consequences.
The Rooks serve as generals and captains of the exterior army. They are the ones that lead the Pawns off into battle when Kingdoms are at war. They are in charge of the first line of defense and also manage to act as the King’s personal protectors when they are not actually out in the field. In their minds, the best way to keep the King safe is to keep is to keep the battles and bloodshed as far from the their walls as possible. After all; if you’re fighting in enemy territory, while they do have a home advantage..they still receive more damage in the end.
The Pawns are the most diverse of soldiers. They can elect to fight away, under command of a Rook, or fight at home, under command of a Knight. Whole they are bound by law and honor to serve and protect, just as their commanding officers are, they are not typically held responsible for any failures or faults. They have the most freedom of the court, but as a double-edged blade, are the most expendable. Why send someone of value to fight a battle that is a sure loss..when you can send a pawn to make the ultimate sacrifice instead?
Civilians
Everyone in the kingdom who is not part of the Royal Court. A variety of occupations, importance, status and wealth. All who (usually) look to their King as the beacon of hope, and their Queen as sword and shield.
