Nguyen Thi Kim-Ly
Name: Nguyen Thi Kim-Ly
Nickname: None that she responds to, though she’s often just referred to as her job title, “The Black Smith”
Nationality: Penuria//Vietnam
Gender :Female
Age: 20
Social Rank: Civilian
Occupation: Blacksmith/Weapons Specialist…and something of a Robinhood on the side
Hair Color: Dark Brown; When she was younger Kim-Ly’s hair was always cut short, no longer than her ears. Her mother seemed stuck on delivering the most stereotypical bowl-cut as she could –and besides that, Kim-Ly was supposed to grow up as a fisherwoman. There was no time for vanity and long hair. Upon her mother’s death Kim-Ly often forgot to cut her hair and when she finally realized how long it had gotten, decided that she like dit better longer. To this day, her hair remains her pride and joy, it’s been years since she last cut it (or even trimmed it) and it falls to around her lower hips when it’s unbound. She understands that it’s dangerous to have such long hair when you’re working with fire…but she just can’t bear to cut it.
Eye Color: Her eyes are a deep golden-honey color that seems to give away her emotions no matter how hard she tries to conceal them. They’re set under rather prominent brows…not so much because of their thickness, but rather they have such an angle that it gives her almost an eternal look of deep concentration. Overall, it gives her a very intense and penetrating stare…or glare depending on her mood.
Weight: 110
Height: 5’1
Special Features: Kim-Ly has some very obvious scars on her arms –which have more to do with her job than anything. She refuses to wear gloves because she feels as if it dissolves some sort of “connection” she holds with the metal she’s working and because of this suffers a large amount of burns –some of them quite severe.
Oddly enough, she has one more scar, which she doesn’t really make the effort to conceal, buts he doesn’t exactly reveal its presence to anyone either. A long jagged line starts at the base of her neck and reaches to her mid-back, jaggedly tracing her spine.

To create something new: Kim-Ly wants to make a difference, to create something that has not been seen before. She wants to be recognized for her creativity that is so often overlooked in favor of brutality. Brutality which she often enables.
Love:…Well. She hasn’t given up entirely , but it isn't love in the sense of someone who can "take care" of Kim-Ly. She sees anything of that sort rather disgusting. She doesn't want to be some trophy wife, who's duty is to watch after children and devote her life to the husband, rather, Kim-Ly dreams of a relationship of mutual respect that BOTH parties earn.

Fears:
Personality:
Despite her dual nature, as whole Kim-Ly really is in control. She likes being in control of situations, with chaos only coming in small healthy doses. In any sort of heated situation, you can be sure that Kim-Ly will be the one to keep her head, she has been alive too long and trained to hard not to . There’s something magical about standing in the middle of a buzzing room and knowing –no matter what happens- you’ll be the one who keeps your head. Kim-Ly cherishes that feeling; she covets her abilities of shielding her emotions from the world, because in some small and primitive way she feels that it gives her an edge that others don’t have. In the midst of a fight, Kim-Ly is in a constant state of analyzing. She sees an opponent raise an arm and she tries to decide where they’re aiming. It’s just a natural part of her thought process –she can’t turn it off. Even in normal situations, you’d be hard-pressed to do something that Kim-Ly didn’t notice.
That being said, Vietnam is a lot smarter than others give her credit for. She exhibits more of a quiet, constantly whirring cognitive process. She reads a lot of classics –and just historical documents for that matter. You could ask her to recite whatever laws her Kingdom has word-for-word and she’d be able to comply easily. She has a natural skillfulness and curiosity. Kim-Ly is talented at thinking outside the box. In another life, she very well may have been one of those eccentric (read: insane) scientists that stayed in their labs creating time machines and watching Star Wars. She adores machines, and the best gift you could get her is a broken clock…there are just so many things she could do with a broken clock. It’s like giving her a ticket to Disney Land. Though she loves new things to tinker with, it’s only her second love. Her first love will always be the children which she employs to help her at the forge. Threaten any of those that Kim-Ly refers to as family and you release a tigress driven mad by previous losses and tragedies. She cannot stand threats that put in jeopardy her people.
In all her guilt and denial you run across a much darker Kim-Ly. This was the woman who was subjected to the indignities of begging on streets and countless days spent alone. The world has hardened Kim-Ly, she hasn’t remained the same happy-go-lucky country girl. Although she hates doing so –Vietnam can be manipulative, and she enjoys the act of manipulating others. It gives her a sense of power over others that she isn’t usually able to wield. She can be cruel if needed and- most of all- she would do almost anything to win. Rules may be important, but Kim-Ly thinks herself above them. She justifies all her actions as being for “the greater good” and when she realizes her mistakes becomes hopelessly lost as to what she should do. Kim-Ly represses memories that are only revealed to her at night and because of this, she’s a first-class insomniac.

History:
The next night, a group of rowdy and drunken men broke into the house looking for the vase. They demanded that the family handed it over, her father refused. That didn’t stop the men form killing him and his wife and running off with the vase, leaving a brutally injured daughter to fend for herself.
The event changed Kim-Ly, opened her eyes to the blatant cruelty to the world surrounding and she decided that if she were to survive, she would have to mirror it tenfold. She blamed herself for the deaths, figuring that if she hadn’t told so many people about the vase, the men never would have heard about it. In this subconscious shame, Kim-Ly ran away from her home, heading to the only place where she thought she might make a new beginning. At nine years old she was forced to grow up quickly.
The village was a long way from the city, and Kim-Ly was young and penniless. For months at a time, she would hire herself out on the farms she passed –something she thought of as suitable, being that her own father had been a farmer. This of course was only the journey, because surely a better life waited for her in the capital, right?
By the time she made it to the capital, Kim-Ly was 13 and life was no more improved. There were few jobs in the City meant for thirteen year olds and Kim-Ly was reduced to begging. It was something a proud girl like Kim-Ly could not do for more than a week (besides that, she was horrible at it. People don’t give money to children who glare at them.) Instead, she turned to thieving. A field which Kim-Ly was always particularly talented in. It was through sheer coincidence that she decided to steal form the Blacksmith’s shop, and sheer fate that the Blacksmith caught her.
It might have been pure luck that he happened to be looking for an apprentice. For six years she worked with him, first as an apprentice and then as a journeywoman. But within those years, under his tutelage, Kim-Ly’s own fame grew. She took to the new skill like a fish to water and progressed quickly through the lessons, easily mastering each level. When he died (to Kim-Ly’s deepest regrets), she inherited his forge and title of master, and though she’s young has already shown a tremendous amount of promise.
(I tried to make it parallel to Viet’s actual history…please tell me if I should adjust some things~))
